About Tomislav Kuljiš

The cognitions about the influence of the experience with the caretakers in a child’s early developmental period onto a lifelong behavior and health of a person in future, today represent one of the most contemporary paradigm in the world that are starting to change many spheres in the society by the power of the facts, especially regarding the parenting and psychotherapy.

These enlightening and deep insights about the formation of personality, personally I’ve started to receive through a six-year education for the Integrative body psychotherapy therapist (program which unites more psychotherapeutic approaches). I remember being fascinated with the cognition how nearly everything we do as therapists with adults, it all comes down to “repair” neglects and mistakes of the parents, on whose behalf we have all sorts of problems as adults. Even when the emotional or psychological wound or traumatic experience has developed later in a more mature phase of life, again we would have to consider the early development and soon it would become very visible how that later harmful experience wouldn’t be so devastating if the experiences from the early period didn’t drive a person to have permanent consequences when experiencing new harmful situations such as emotional, marital, business problems or crisis.

Witnessing in therapies with adults the consequences of emotional traumas from the early period, I would stay blown away, questioning myself if their parents would do such things to their child if they knew that it would result in such devastating consequences. I remember how even than I started to grow a huge urge to show the parents how their children feel deep inside themselves and what lifelong consequences and results will come out of certain relations and discplinary methods, such as even today parents unknowingly do accept when relating their children.

Particularly awakening was a three-year education and training for a therapist at the Center for intentional living from New York with Alexis Johnson PhD and Judith Schmrauch PhD, which dug the deepest experiences from the earliest period out of me and my colleagues, defining us even today, regulating our behavior, changing our perception, usually without us even being conscious about it. Similar cognitions and insights I have received during lot of other educations all over Europe, influencing my even stronger intention to dedicate myself professionally to this field.

I remain highly discontent with the way some fields of child pedagogy and psychology are still approaching the children, especially the outdated rigid behavioral field, and disappointed with the fact of how a child stays unnoticed, misinterpreted in its perception of the surroundings and in experiences of parents, as even how unrecognized remain a child’s real needs.

I consider how the understanding of conditions for a complete parenting and one complete early development during first years in a child’s life represents the most important and precious notion that a parent can give to a child as a lifelong value. The problem derives from the fact how the understanding of the early development inevitably opens a theme of myself in a parent, its own experiences as a child, own level of emotional, social, psychological maturity…in short, it demands to look at a self, what the majority isn’t ready yet to do. This unconscious resistance represents the reason why these cognitions are entering the society even more slowly than they are supposed to and their penetration will rise together with the rising of consciousness.

My other operating area regards the personal development, representing the completion of the emotional, psychological and social maturation through a deep psychotherapy, which transforms the core, our inner world of emotions, our unconscious behavioral patterns…and finally changes the physiology by balancing the autonomic nervous system what significantly improves the general health status of a person. This kind of results can be achieved with a deep psychotherapeutic approaches that we call body oriented, and which influence the deeper parts of the brain, those that bear the unconscious inner emotional world and are controlling our physiology. This suggests the work with the deepest impulses and primal emotions, at the roots of the issue that is being expressed on the cognitive behavioral level. This implies a deep process work, to get into a contact with the emotional world from which our ego (our conscious level) tends to apart from for a lifelong by developing the unconscious defense mechanisms.

The symbol of mindfulness represents our mark, metaphorically speaking, a drop of water after entering and submersing deep into the water, is being thrown high above the surface. Our work signifies exactly such deep penetration into a self and our deepest traumas, the most repressed emotions, resulting in emotional, psychological and spiritual maturation. With our work we confirm a famous syntax: “Emotions are engine of maturation.”

Personally, I take as unacceptable to rely just on one base of knowledge, regardless its contemporary efficiency. My operations rely on a continuous integration of new cognitions and acceptance of new techniques that provide a greater efficiency in the work with personal problems. Our Center will always remain open towards further development and upgrading, permanently unattached to existing concepts and procedures as even techniques in work with people what would restrain further progress and evolution.

In further development of programs Parenting and early development, Personal development and Training for therapists, my intention is to continue with the integration of new diverse concepts and approaches. Personally, I look on them as being the same subject, a subject about a person only presented from different point of views. I believe how as more different views involved in our picture of the subject, that’s how the picture becomes clear. If a certain area is known to us by deep experiencing, than it gets easy to adopt a new complementary knowledge, which would be adopted for years if there hadn’t been any background knowledge.

The early development of a early child and the personal development as far as I’m concerned are representing the same subject regarding the deep psychotherapeutic approaches. The question is when do we get to the point on a person’s timeline where we observe a subject of a personality development.

In the past ten years, there has been an explosion of new cognitions and a real scientific Avant-garde is presented by a whole new generation of scientists who are breaking boundaries and containment of certain sciences by integrating and combining contemporary cognitions, forming one complete picture of a human being. Our work is set on this new wave.

My personal mission and something of a great sense of doing with a complete devotion is exactly to spread these cognitions and to find a way of being understood, approaching as many people as possible, especially the parents and those who need the self improvement, as even those who will find themselves in this line of work.

Being a therapist and a coach of processing and experiential workshops I get the confiramtion of these cognitions on a daily basis, and experientially being acquainted even deeper with the inner wounded child in adults, I get a need to develop the ways for healing these wounds.

My greatest whish would be for this knowledge to spread into the society, for all those parents who want to get the opportunity to be even a better parent, so the children could have the chance of being well balanced. Even further, by entering the advanced programs (Personal Development) which represents a continuation after “Parenting and Early Development”, to educate new generations of experts for early development and therapists. They can continue spread this knowledge, work on prevention and be supportive in further personal development as in resolution of early trauma consequences.
